On December 5th 2024, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, announced that the European Union and the Gates Foundation will co-host the High-Level Pledging Summit in support of Gavi’s 6.0 strategy, from 2026–2030. President Von der Leyen later confirmed the Summit will take place on March 19th and 20th. Since 2000, Gavi-supported programs have helped immunize over a billion children. Gavi 6.0 is the final push to achieve global immunization and health security targets ahead of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) deadline. The European Union and several of its Member States have been long-standing and impactful partners of Gavi. EU CSOs warmly welcomed the European Commission’s early pledge of €260 million for 2026 and 2027 to Gavi 6.0, back in September 2024. As stated by President von der Leyen: “In today’s world, addressing health challenges at the global level is more important than ever.” The undersigned organizations applaud the European Union leadership for co-hosting Gavi’s High-Level Pledging Summit. We call on the European Union to foster a Team Europe spirit in the run-up to and during the Summit to ensure its success. Pledges from EU Member States and other key supporters will be key in the achievement of the SDGs, will help protect 500 million children around the world, strengthen immunization systems, and boost global health security by increasing readiness to respond to disease outbreaks.
