Global Health Advocates, along with seven other NGOs working in global health, have drafted an open letter to the EU Commissioner for International Partnerships, with recommendations for the EU’s long-term response to health threats, such as the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), and how to ensure the right to health for all.
While this letter focuses on EU investment in global health initiatives like Gavi; building strong, resilient health systems; investing in WASH and nutrition; and creating better Research and Innovation (R&I) policies to respond to future out breaks, we understand that the COVID-19 response also requires longer-term action to address the socio-economic implications of the crisis on people’s lives. We hope that in planning to address these implications, you will take a complementary approach that tackles the social and economic determinants of health.
