The European Parliament is currently deciding the annual budget for 2022, such as the amount of money that will be spent in partner countries on international development projects, including the EU’s continued response to COVID-19.

Together with the Pandemic Action Network, the ONE Campaign, Aidsfonds, the International Rescue Committee, DSW and Global Citizen, GHA has developed a short brief with recommendations for how the EU can continue to show leadership towards COVID-19, without diverting aid from other global health priorities and human development priorities.

Most important:

  1. The People-Global Challenges budget line of “Global Europe” instrument must be increased, and saved for sustainable human development and global health priorities
  2. The EU must pledge another EUR 1.2 billion to the Access to COVID-19 Tools Accelerator (ACTA) in 2021, and this money should come from the Emerging Challenges and Priorities Cushion, EU4Health, and/or the Flexibility Instrument.
