The 7th Summit between the European Union (EU) and the African Union (AU) in Luanda (Angola) will take place on November 24th and 25th.  This Summit will mark the 25-year anniversary of the Partnership, and at a time  of historic inequalities around the world, the Summit represents a key opportunity: it is a chance to make progress towards accessible, affordable, and sustainable healthcare for all.

The EU and AU have signalled their ambition : the joint EU–AU monitoring report on the Vision for 2030 and President von der Leyen’s call for Europe to lead on global health. Now is the time for concrete actions.

As Europe and Africa meet, we need nothing less than a new model of aid delivery: one that goes beyond short-term fixes and empowers Africa to build health systems that are resilient, thriving, and rooted in self-determination. True partnership means supporting African health autonomy and sovereignty while also responding to the urgent, immediate needs of people today. Both are essential. Both are possible.

On Monday,  27 October 2025, the ACTION Africa Partnership and Global Health Advocates co-hosted a webinar, titled ‘Seizing the EU-AU Summit: Advancing Health in Equal Partnership’. The discussion explored the intersection between health, economic and social progress, and the importance of including Civil Society voices,  against a backdrop of challenging times for financing and the reforms needed to build genuine co-ownership between the two continents –  contributing to these ongoing dialogues in the lead-up to and aftermath of the EU-AU Summit.
