Joint CSO Letter on SUPPORTING THE PROPOSAL TO A WAIVER FROM CERTAIN PROVISIONS UNDER THE TRIPS AGREEMENT DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Aligned with our first support through the open letter signed by more than 500 organisations, GHA and more than 100 civil society organisations are now calling the European Parliament and national parliaments of EU member states for support for India, South Africa, Eswatini and Kenya landmark proposal. This waiver demands of a temporary lifting of certain intellectual property (IP) provisions under the Agreements on Trade-related Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) for Covid 19 medical diagnostics, treatments and vaccines in order to ensure sufficient access and availability of Covid19 medical technologies during the time of pandemic.

This joint CSO letter  is demanding the EU Parliament and national parliaments to urgently support the waiver proposal and ask the EU Commission, which has already exposed a strong opposition to the proposal, to reconsider its position and embody its equity value.
