330 organizations call on the EU to commit €800 million to the Global Fund before the next board meeting

The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria is facing a critical challenge. In a difficult international context, the outcome of the 8th Replenishment Conference was  disappointing, with donors failing to reach the target of $18 billion.

This funding shortfall comes at a time when cuts in Official Development Assistance (ODA) are already severely disrupting responses to the three pandemics and increased funding is urgently needed. In this context, more than 300 global civil society organizations, including GHA (NGOs, patient groups, and public health organizations), have joined forces.

We urge the European Commission to play a decisive leadership role. The outcome of November 21 was disappointing, but a more ambitious result is still within reach. In line with its historic leadership role in global health, the European Union has an opportunity to send a strong signal and strengthen global health security.
