On December 2nd, Global Health Advocates together with other European civil society organisations (including Médecins Sans Frontières, Salud por Derecho, Health Action International, Aidsfonds, and Médecins du Monde France) —  sent an open letter to the SANT Committee of the European Parliament with our recommendations on the Critical Medicines Act (CMA).

As the European Parliament and the Member States in EPSCO finalise their positions on the Critical Medicines Act (CMA), we call on MEPs and Member States to ensure that the following principles and objectives be incorporated:

  • Guarantee public return on public investment
  • Strengthen collaborative procurement to improve affordability and supply security
  • Align EU pharmaceutical policy with global health commitments

The Essential Medicines Act provides an opportunity to build a fairer and more transparent pharmaceutical system focused on public health needs. To achieve this and as the EU negotiates the framework that will shape access to critical medicines for the foreseeable future, we urge the SANT Committee to put people’s health first in their deliberations and decisions.
