In 2023, Global Health Advocates celebrated its 15th anniversary. This milestone provided an opportunity to reflect on the significant moments in its history, the impact of its advocacy, as well as its strategic and organizational development. But 2023 was also a pivotal year for global health.
Global Health Action is proud to publish its annual report, which looks back on a period of intense efforts and concrete achievements for more just and equitable global health. The year was marked by strategic mobilizations and significant victories.
Global Health Action’s advocacy for fair and equitable health policies
In 2024, we worked to ensure that global health remained a political priority. Our analyses of the Financial Transaction Tax (FTT) revealed a substantial shortfall in development and health financing. These revelations not only attracted the attention of decision-makers, but were also widely reported in the media. This in-depth work has contributed to heightened awareness and important debates within the national assembly, even if the road to direct allocation of funds remains a struggle.
At European level, the June 2024 elections were a major opportunity. We targeted new MEPs and Commissioners with bold campaigns, such as our “fake job offer” for the post of Commissioner for International Partnerships, to reaffirm the primacy of human development. These actions helped forge new alliances and raise awareness among European decision-makers of the urgent need to keep global health at the heart of the EU agenda.
Unprecedented parliamentary mobilization in France
The year 2024 was particularly dynamic in terms of parliamentary mobilization. The transparent “Unis pour la santé” club, launched by Global Health Action, continued to grow, informing and supporting MPs on global health issues. Thanks to this unique network, our advocacy calls resonated far and wide, and many parliamentarians became actively involved in key issues such as sexual and reproductive rights, vaccine equity, the fight against malnutrition and taxes on financial transactions.
Concrete progress in the fight against preventable diseases and malnutrition
The year 2024 was marked by our ongoing mobilization for vaccine equity. Our “A Dose of Solidarity” campaign generated promising commitments, notably from President Macron and the European Commission, to replenish the resources of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. This is an essential victory to guarantee access to vaccines for millions of children around the world.
In parallel, we stepped up our advocacy in the fight against malnutrition. In anticipation of the Nutrition for Growth Summit (N4G) hosted by France in March 2025, GHA conducted in-depth awareness-raising work with parliamentarians and ministerial cabinets. Our reports and recommendations helped unite civil society around concrete objectives to increase mobilization.
Defending the transparency and ethics of AI in healthcare
In 2024, GHA also raised the voice of civil society loud and clear on crucial issues such as the transparency of algorithms in the healthcare sector. Our “Soignons Nos Algos” campaign warned of the risks of hasty deployment of Artificial Intelligence in healthcare, underlining the importance of strict regulation to protect citizens. We called for a public label to evaluate AI technologies in healthcare, guaranteeing their safety and ethics.
We have also worked to combat misinformation in healthcare, particularly virulent on digital platforms. In doing so, we are committed to consolidating public trust in scientific institutions and data, a crucial public health issue.
